We are fortunate, when we gaze out over Great Bay, the harbor, and the ocean, to experience their beauty and a sense of peace. But under the surface of the water there is a struggle. Human caused nitrogen and other pollutants wreak havoc with water quality. 

 

The City of Portsmouth invested $93 million to upgrade the Peirce Island Wastewater Treatment Plant to be able to treat over 6 million gallons of wastewater per day. Plant personnel are proud to provide tours to people who want to understand how these treatment processes work.
