VOLUNTEERING

Village volunteers fall into three categories: Village Builders, Program Support Volunteers and Direct Service Volunteers (which include drivers).

  • Village Builders work “behind the scenes” by managing phones, writing grant proposals and making our technology work. Six teams are led by a board member responsible for coordinating volunteer activities.
  • Direct Service Volunteers work directly with our members both in the community and at their homes. These volunteers undergo formal interviewing, background checks and training before they help our members. Volunteers who drive require additional credential checks.
  • Program Support Volunteers help with program set-up and clean-up, running registration tables or helping with mailings.

The strength of our Village depends on having engaged and equal relationships with each other. Our Village runs on volunteers who:

Are part of a team: there's always back up if your schedule changes and you are unable to fulfill your volunteer commitment.

Set their own schedule and follow their interests: Volunteers decide how much and in what way they want to help. You can always decline an opportunity–either because it doesn’t fit your schedule or you don’t feel comfortable with the task.

Have clear boundaries: Village Volunteers can drive, run errands, and help with yard work. But we know that licensed professionals are better suited to filling medication boxes, providing personal care or helping people who need full assistance to transfer in and out of chairs and wheelchairs.

Ready to be part of our volunteer team? Interested members should complete the Volunteer Interest Form.
