Continuing our talk of dying as begun by the clever founder of the Pre-Dead Social Club, we will examine five guidelines espoused by the author of The Art of Dying Well, Katy Butler, along with the input of Atul Gawande, Kathleen Dowling Singh, Steven Ostaseski, and others. This will be led by Mary Elizabeth McCue, a Seacoast Village Project member.

About the Presenter

Mary Elizabeth McCue, MDiv. is a doctoral candidate at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA and a graduate of Harvard Divinity School. She is certified as a Spiritual Director by the Adelynrood School of Spiritual Direction in Massachusetts. She was also trained as an End of Life and Grief coach in an International Coaching Federation accredited program in 2021. She has a private practice based on this training and education but most especially on her experience as a hospital chaplain. Mary Elizabeth’s particular academic interest is in the beauty that often occurs at the moment of death due to the presence of the person’s most Essential Self. She encourages people to return to their true self long before their last day.

This program is part of the 2024 Lunch & Learn series that features guest experts who provide
critical information to seniors wanting to better plan and advocate for themselves as they grow
older. Lunch & Learn programs occur on the third Tuesday of each month. Recordings of past
Lunch & Learn presentations can be found in the Lunch & Learn Program Archive.
