VILLAGE MEMBER STORIES

Jann Foster, New Castle

Why did you join the Seacoast Village Project? How does it fit into your long term plans?

I found the Village through Nancy Euchner, founder; Nancy’s social initiative and vision on aging continue to inspire.  I am a very independent octogenarian who loves my home and island surroundings. As I age, I’ve adapted and made plans so I can continue to live comfortably and safely. Being a part of the Seacoast Village Project gives me the additional support needed and the many offerings make it easier for me to remain independent with confidence and peace of mind.

What aspect of Village membership are you finding the most enjoyable or valuable?

Because of a relentless illness, I haven’t been able to take part in many Seacoast Village activities. This will change as my health improves.  A bright spot has been my volunteer drivers.  Each appointment has turned into an opportunity to meet wonderful people, who bring laughter, warmth, and a comfortable excitement for life. This kindness has lifted my spirits and reminded me of the strength of community.

Thank you for donating a painting to our Artists and Crafters Showcase raffle! How long have you been painting?

As a professional church organist and piano teacher, I long carried an interest in painting, but could never find the time to pursue it. About 20 years ago, I began my journey with watercolor, and was especially drawn to the Seacoast of New Hampshire. I find endless inspiration in its moods and venues, each offering something new to capture and interpret through my brush.

What would you say to a friend that is interested in joining?

I’ve referred many people to the Seacoast Village, including visiting nurses who cared for me over the last three months. The Seacoast Village has eased the stress of getting to doctor appointments by providing dependable rides, which is invaluable.  The true value of community support is the best medicine!
