VILLAGE MEMBER STORIES
Mary Proskow, Stratham
How long have you lived on the Seacoast?
I've lived on the seacoast for nearly 8 years. My husband and I moved from Chicago right after we married. He had just retired and we didn't want to stay in the Midwest. He had lived in Nashua for many years and thought Portsmouth would be perfect.
How do you most like to spend your time now?
I taught piano (many years ago), and I continue to be involved in music by playing the violin. I'm in the Wellesley Symphony and I also play with a group at my church. In addition, I do a lot of volunteer work, mostly at Gather and St. Johns Church, where we host several food ministries.
Why did you join the Village and how does it fit into your long-term plans?
I initially joined the Village so that I could get help around the house with things I can't manage. But I've used the many programs and social gatherings it provides. I especially enjoy the Women's Discussion group at the Stratham library.
What would you say to a friend interested in joining the Village?
To anyone interested, I'd say: it's the best of all worlds. You get to volunteer and help people, you get to have someone help you when needed, and you get to participate in so many fun activities.
