VILLAGE MEMBER STORIES
Patricia Yosha, Exeter
What brought you to the Seacoast in 1998?
In 1998 I moved to Fremont, NH to live with my husband, whom I had married in 1993. We commuted back and forth from the Hartford area until I totally retired. I knew only my husband in NH when I moved here!
What did you do professionally?
I was a high school English teacher for 30 years, most of that in the West Hartford school system. Later, my husband and I were volunteer instructors on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and at Haskell Indian Nations University for two terms.
How do you spend your time now? What are your interests/hobbies or other involvements?
In the 21st century in this Seacoast area, I spend my time following political causes through community-based and church organizations. I also read much, fiction and non-fiction, and listen to (and play) classical music. I love to travel and have taken several Viking cruises with my daughter.
Why did you decide to become a Village member? How does it fit into your long-term plans?
My neighbor and friend (and Seacoast Village member) Janet Tucker introduced me to the Village. My long-term plan is to remain in my rental apartment, which I love, hiring caregivers if and when I need them. My immediate family lives far away; my stepfamily is nearby. I do not expect them to be care-givers, so Village connections are my evolving "system" of care. Friendships and vendors available through the Village are what I am gradually going to be dependent on.
What aspects of the Village are you most interested in?
I am interested in the ZOOM and in-person social and informational sessions offered by the Village. I have participated in both and feel enlightened and connected as a result.
What would you say to a close friend who was considering joining the Village? them?
The Seacoast Village Project is a resource of interesting people, available folks with connections, especially for people wishing to "age in place."
