Durham residents love historical Wagon Hill Farm for its variety of natural areas, from meadows to woods to a lengthy Oyster River shoreline. Our walk of approximately one-and-a-half miles will first take us along wide, mowed paths through the meadow area, down to the Oyster River at an area of restored shoreline with water access. We will take advantage of picnic tables there to stop briefly for a sandwich or a snack (bring your own), explore a small family cemetery, and/or bird-watch. Beyond there, the trail follows the shoreline through a wooded area. Walking here is somewhat more challenging than in the meadow, with roots, stones, potential muddy areas, and some steep portions. For those who might prefer a shorter walk, there is an alternate direct route back to the parking lot along a gravel road.
Members are welcome to invite a guest.
Wear comfortable walking shoes, and dress for the weather. Walking sticks may be useful.
